I have a 1970 Mercury Cougar with a 351W and FMX transmission. I am looking into replacing the FMX with an AOD. Will this kit work and will the driveshaft require shortening or replacement? My research shows the FMX is 1/2 inch shorter.

The kit we have is not technically for the FMX, it is for the C4 or C6. You might want to take a look at the ClassicCougarCommunity.com Forums, there are several guys who have done the 70 FMX to AOD conversion. Here is one thread: https://classiccougarcommunity.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4863
