    Description

New rear seat to trunk steel divider for your Mercury Cougar. We had this one made specifically for the Mercury Cougar and it is designed to replace the flimsy tar based cardboard factory divider.

We have noticed that after 40 plus years of chassis flex, the welds on the cross braces behind the rear seat tend to be broken at the top or bottom. When installed properly behind the rear seat, this 18 gauge steel divider will provide stiffness to the chassis. This divider can be bonded, screwed or welded into your car and will provide insulation from sound and temperature that seeps in from the trunk.

The metal divider mounts behind the rear seat from the inside of the car, so it does not conflict with the factory braces.

Don talks about this divider in our video below on suspension and chassis upgrades.

    Pros:
    • Quality part
    • Thick metal
    Cons:
    • Takes some tweaking to install
While the car was dismantled I installed the Metal Rear Seat Divider and welded it in place. Gives great peace of mind knowing this metal rear seat divider is in place and provides protection from a rear end collision. This metal divider also strengthens the entire rear of the car. Great product and not too difficult to install.

This piece is definitely a good fit in the back of a '68 cougar. Fit perfectly and installed easily using the installation kit WCCC sells. The steel was actually a bit thicker than I thought it would be. Since it's bare steel I sprayed mine satin black before installing.

Was going to make this myself. Glad I didn't try. This steel divider is cut perfectly and fits perfectly. I'm so glad I searched to see if anyone made or had plans to make this. This was so much easier. I strongly recommend this for any Cougar owner.

I have always been meaning to buy this and I finally did. The product was decently sturdy and fit well. I decided to not weld mine in because it would make it much harder in the future to change out rear shocks. So I used sheet metal screws to attach mine and then covered it in some adhesive sound deadening. Havent noticed too much of a stiffness difference in the car but then again mine is a cruiser. I did notice a sound difference though after installing and covering in sound deadening. Definitely reccomend installing.

    PieroR Asked:
Need clarity to above question....What metal divider will fit a 67 Mustang coupe? Will it need any trimming/modifications? thanks

    Answer
    WCCC Admin Answered:
That area of the car is different between the Cougar and Mustang. We had these custom cut to fit the Cougar and have never tried them in a Mustang, so we can not speak to what would need to be done to make these fit in the Mustang.

Hi, Will this fit a '67 Mustang convertible?
    January 4, 2022 4:10 PM
    Answer
    WCCC Admin Answered:
Unfortunately, No. The convertible body structure is way too different. The 1969-70 Cougar ones can only fit the coupes because of the differences.

    Asked:
My divider is in the mail so I am guessing this question is premature, but, here it goes. When I install the divider will the factory bars that are currently in place need to be removed or will the plate go right on top?

We briefly talk about it in our suspension & chasis upgrade video: https://youtu.be/UgxL4xnTTZ4?t=719

The metal divider mounts behind the seat from the inside of the car, so it does not conflict with the factory braces.

Why am I being warned about potential exposure to chemicals in motor vehicle parts?

    • Some chemicals in motor vehicle parts are on the Proposition 65 list because they can cause cancer and/or birth defects or other reproductive harm.
    • When purchasing USED or NOS items, we do not know if listed chemicals are present in these products.
    • This product is known to contain the following listed chemicals:
