They were red to guide the line workers on placement.

Not 100% correct, but close and functional. In 1967 - 1968 there were eight per wheel lip moulding, two per fender extension moulding, two per center grille moulding and five per hood lip moulding for a total of 50 screws. In 1969 - 1973 they were used on the wheel lips mouldings. The 1971 - 1973 hood lip mouldings used the same screw but it was 5/8" tall. Sold as a box of 100.

This small sized Cougar emblem (1 3/8" long) was used on 1969 - 1973 Cougars without AC. It was affixed to a block off plate in the very venter of the dash by two peened over die cast studs. Our used center grill emblems will always have some amount of fade in the plexi area and if the backing has not separated from the rest of the emblem it often times will be lose. These fender emblems look much like the 1968 quarter panel emblems but differ in that they have longer studs that fasten via barrel clips as opposed to a speed nut used on the 1968 quater panel emblems.
