A lot of people don't consider this important (like I use to) but it is. Battery hold down brackets are needed to keep the battery from bouncing around in all directions especially when going over potholes, railroad tracks and other bumps in the road. This bracket along with the rest of the battery hold down brackets keeps the battery in place. The battery hold down bracket keeps the battery from bouncing but this little 90 degree bracket keeps the battery and tray from wobbling and slinging battery acid around. That wobbling can fatigue the metal and lead to cracks in the tray and inner fender.
