Works like a charm and no hassles at all, its so easy to work with. I am very happy with this tool.
While this tool does a good job of providing a safe compressing method, it does so mounted in the car. You cannot compress the spring prior to installation, so if you do not have 'un-assembled' level of travel in the upper 'A' arm, you cannot get it in place. So a simple coil spring swap means disconnecting enough of the steering and suspension that your A arm will drop fully.
First off this tool is good for 67-70 Mustang and Cougars I believe. I used it on my 71 Cougar because I had a shock tower cap from my 68 Mustang. The 71-73 Cougars have a single shock type rod that bolts to the top of the shock tower cap verses the two bolts on the Mustang and Cougar. I was able to extract my old springs with this tool and used a crow bar laid down at an angle on my upper control arm allow which allowed the spring to slide out. It can catch on the upper ball joint cover otherwise. This tool is easier to set up than the old style compressor. I then used my old coil spring compressor to put in the new springs. Definitely a plus to have a friend with a two post lift and to have an extra set of hands.
