This decal can be used to overlay your replacement oil filter, so it looks more like a vintage original oil filter. Research indicates that the gold was primarily used on 66 and earlier, as was the red. This is an accurate reproduction of the tie down notice decal that was placed on the rear license plate frame. This was to remind dealers to remove the tie down plates that were used to secure the cars to the transport trains / trucks on their way from the factory to the dealers. Ford wanted to recycle these plates to save money, but dealers often didn't feel it was worth their time to remove the plates. Thus, many cars still have them. Check yours out! ...

Controversy abounds on which shrouds received these and which did not. It is our understanding that no early Cougars came from the factory with this decal installed. This decal first surfaced when Ford had major problems with their flex fans in the early 1970's. We will let you decide if it is correct for your application... This decal was sometimes placed on the dash face pad near the middle or right side, and sometimes on the sun visor.
