This unit mounts on the main air chamber, it opens and closes the air vent. Made of nylon with a brass plunger. This unit is easy to test and can be seen by removing the glove box. These are used hose clamps that have a tab and fold over on them selves. These were dipped in a rubber like substance to prevent chaffing. The ones that we have available do have some cracking or damage to this coating. It should be easy to 'dip' them again with the product that is available in most hardware stores. We normally see 2 of these clamps, or straps bundling the hoses on most cars. These clamps should fit a variety of different Ford and Mercury products, not just Mustang and Cougar....

This is an original NOS hot idle compensator for Mercury Cougar or Ford Mustang models with V-8 engine and factory A/C. It is installed in the middle of the hose that connects the PCV valve to the rear of the carburetor spacer. This 1969-70 Mercury Cougar and Ford Mustang shield, was installed at the factory to protect the heater motor from being damaged when the Big Block 390 / 428CJ's were being dropped in. As noted in the factory assembly manuals we sell, they were supposed to be removed once the motor was in place.
