We at West Coast Classic Cougar are now offering quality rebuilt original Ford harmonic balancers in addition to used and reproduction. We have found a rebuilder that has our total confidence. Crankshaft balancers or dampeners can deteriorate over time, and you don't even know that it is happening. Time and heat take a toll on the rubber that bonds the hub and the outer balancer ring. Over time the rubber bonding hardens and begins to deteriorate. The outer ring begins to slip. This problem, while not noticeable as an engine vibration problem, is potentially causing an engine timing problem. Your timing marks are on this outer balance ring. Accurate timing is very critical to the operation of your engine.
Our crankshaft balancers come with a lifetime warranty, they are that good. The restoration process involves the separation of the hub and outer balancer ring. These two parts are thoroughly cleaned, bead blasted, and chemically primered. Only a premium grade of special high temperature, vacuum prepared silicone rubber compound is used for the bonding of the balancer ring. Only premium quality 400 F. degree modern rubber is used which costs about $200 per gallon. A special fixture is used that accurately orients the crankshaft key-way and the timing mark on the outer harmonic balancer ring during the bonding process. The final stage of the process is to polish the oil seal surface. When these are finished they look and function like brand new.
We stock these restored OEM Ford harmonic balancers for all common engine applications, High Performance applications almost always require your core be shipped to us in advance. If you prefer, we will also be happy to send in your crankshaft balancer to keep your engine "numbers matching". All harmonic balancers are sold on an exchange basis or a core charge will apply.
All of these balancers have been researched and have been found to have specific applications only. Many are year and engine specific only, meaning 289 and 302 engines do not mix. Newer 302 engines used 50 oz. flex plates and flywheels and have unique harmonic balancers.
