Reproduction dash pad in DARK RED for the 1967 and 1968 Mercury Cougar. This is the same Dashes Direct pad you see advertised elsewhere. Beware of the "other" brand of dash pad out there, it will not fit.

Please Note: Color on these is inconsistent and never spot on to the original, but is the best option available. The color has the same issues as the MAROON / DARK RED armrests we sell.

First off, I must say this is the best version of this much needed reproduction offered to date. That being said I want to offer the following observations. The first thing you will notice upon opening the package is the smell... Very strong, unnatural odor (some call it the "New Car Smell") that contrary to what some may say, will not disappear in a short time, it takes months...

Once you go to install it you will notice it is much heavier than the original. This is because the original was foam filled with a vinyl covering and the reproduction is a solid core design. The good news is that because of this design, it should never crack! Before you begin the installation process you will want to clear the speaker perforations of blockage left behind during the manufacturing process. On the Classic Cougar Community Forum one member has documented how to do this from the back side with a sander; in fact, before you purchase this dash pad, it might be worthy your time to read the multiple treads on Classic Cougar Community Forum regarding theses pads. Once you go to install the pad you may struggle a little with the trim along the windshield as the mounting flange of this pad is thicker than that of the original.

Used grade "A" dash pads are almost impossible to find these days, they just were not designed to be exposed to the sun and heat for 50 years! This is a good alternative made by Dashes Direct.

With red interiors there's no good option

This dash pad is nicely constructed and it fits ok. It was a little warped out of the box, so I massaged it into place, and I had to let it sit over night before I could get the nuts on the back of the lower screw posts that go into either side of the dash just above the AC vents. Other than that, installation was easy. Unfortunately, as warned in the listing itself, the color is not great. My 67 interior is bright red, and this pad is an extremely dark maroon. The pad even comes with a little warning card from Dashes Direct that says not to try to paint it, so that's out of the question as well. I didn't have a repairable dash pad or I would have just gotten a new cover to repair the old one. Wish it didn't cost $600 to end up with something that really can only be described as adequate.

my dash pad is completely perfect .I spoke with a sales person before ordering I had bought one from another cougar parts vendor that was terrible .the part fits perfect looks great completely satisfied.my talking to person there assured me I would be satisfied would recommend this pad glad I used them by the way there supplier of this dash know what there doing.
