This air cleaner assembly never came from the factory on any Cougar, but was an over the counter option available from your Ford dealer. If you have a very nice hood blanket I would think twice before using it in conjunction with this air cleaner assembly as it will leave an imprint. Very correct kit for the 1971-72! Not only does this kit include all the correct hardware, but also a photocopy of the original Ford template showing where to place the antenna on the passenger side fender. The rectangular base gasket is actually not correct for a Mercury Cougar as it has a Ford Mustang part number and is of a different shape and thickness (see comparison photo).
