West Coast Classic Cougar is proud to offer a wide variety of limited slip or traction locking 8" and 9" rear end center sections, third members, or 'pumpkins' in over 40 different ring and pinion ratios. Our Ford third member specialist has over 30 years of experience setting up ring and pinion gears and rebuilding for stock and high performance applications.

Built from standard (2 rib, 1967 and newer style with fill plugs) 8 inch, and standard 9 inch center cases. Nodular case, aluminum case, or WAR case also available for the 9 inch. Ford 4 pinion traction locks (Trac-Loc) available reconditioned or new. Eaton True-Trac lockers, available new only. True-Trac's are clutchless, and have 8 parallel pinion gears. These have zero drag on turns and there is no 'ratcheting, locking and popping' like on Detroit Lockers and Detroit Soft Lockers. The Eaton True-Trac is highly recommended for street and road racing use. Reconditioned Trac-Locs will have all new clutches and steels. Trac-Locs are also shipped with a bottle of Ford Motorcraft friction modifier additive for the gear oil and a housing gasket. The Ford Motorcraft labeled friction modifier meets or exceeds the original ESW-M2C-104-A (C6AZ-19580-C) properties in the original formulated lubricant. A friction modifier must be added to all Trac-Loc units, even the old one in your car.

A 6 month warranty on all rebuilt Trac-Locs, new Trac-Locs, and True-Tracs. That is six months from the installation date. We recognize that project cars and restorations take time, and these parts must be purchased in advance of that first cruise around the block. New Trac-Loc and True-Trac limited slip units are also available. Available for the common, and desired, 28 splined axles or 31 splined axles. Daytona pinion supports can be installed too. Comes complete with your choice of 1310, 1330, or 1350 yoke. Center section cases painted either period correct red oxide, or black to match your rear end housing. All third members are assembled from used center section cases, yokes, and pinion supports. Both the center section cases and yokes are glass beaded and painted after passing inspection for wear or damage. Anyone with 400Hp or more must step up to the Nodular case.

To properly build a locking third member that is going to 'bolt in' to your car we need to know exactly which yoke that your car has installed. Our shop has come up with a foolproof way to measure your existing third member yoke. Measuring from the metal ring behind the yoke measure the distance to the end of the yoke. Possible measurements are either 3-1/2 or 4-1/2 inches.


 

We also need the measurement for the U-joint caps on your yoke. The measurement choices are 3-1/4 or 3-5/8 inches.


 

Used 9 inch Nodular or "N" cases, with selectable casting date codes (1962-1970 only), available upon special request. Premium upgrade with multiple choice of a wide range of cast date codes. This option includes a correct C5.. marked Daytona pinion support and correct 'Daytona' yoke. These can be ordered with rebuilt Detroit lockers upon request. Our supplier has a fairly large, but limited selection, of original nodular iron cases, with and without the cast "N". The nodular iron case would have been standard on GT-E's, 428 Cobra Jet's, 429 Cobra Jet's, Boss 429 Mustang's, and Boss 302 Eliminator's and Boss 302 Mustang's.

*Trivia - The external "N" did not appear on nodular iron cases until after October 30, 1968.

Available Nodular case dates: 2B28, 2L9, 8G12, 8L13, 8M11, 9A29, 9C21, 9D24, 9D30, 0E29, 0J21, 0K21. Bear in mind that the Nodular cases were cast as needed in the foundry. Our source claims that there were only 2 casting dates in all of 1967. In some cases he has multiple cases with the same date. He has a good steady and changing supply on N-cases. Case casting numbers would be C2AW, C4AW-AB, and D0OW-B. The C2AW carrier would likely be for 1962-63 427 cars?
