    Description

One of the most common problems with first-generation Cougars is droopy hidden headlight eyelids, which make the otherwise iconic front grille look like an eyesore. This inexpensive and easy to install kit provides stops for the eyelids to rest against in the closed position. It also provides some extra structural support to take some of the pressure off the built in bump stops.

The vacuum actuators on these cars create extreme downward pressure at all times when running, causing the upper adjustable stops to warp your soft grille castings over time. The damage caused is most noticeable on the outer edges of your grille, where often the corners will tip inward so severely that they will rub when the eyelid opens and closes. If this is the case, you'll also want our grille straightening kit, which is a set of spacers, like braces for your teeth, which can correct those bent corners. (Coming soon).

Check out our easy installation video below, which shows this kit in action:

As an addendum, here's how you can straighten the outer corners of your grille, which are often crooked:

    Pros:

    • functionality
    Cons:
This kit fit well and it does its job well. I took off one star for craftsmanship because it seems kind of primitive to use a vice grip on the threads to install the studs. Just on principal I used 2 small hex nuts to double nut it and use a nut driver.

I bought my 69 Cougar in Jul of '09 as a retirement from the Army gift to myself. From day 1 it had intermittent heating problems that I tried to fix. I changed the radiator, thermostat, water pump, and added 2 12 in 1400 cfm electric cooling...
